“Visual Flight” -- the fifth-grade library gallery

Under the guidance of Ms. Yang, the fifth-grade students from the elementary department have passionately decorated the library with their art exhibition under the theme “Visual Flight.” The gallery exhibition is divided into 3 main subthemes: colors 123, wire configurations, and individual storytelling. Under the domain of “colors 123,” students attempted to rid their drawings of any concrete images or shapes, focusing instead on allowing the essence of the colors themselves to speak alone. The subsection “wire configurations” boasts a number of intricately-crafted shapes that all require adept craftsmanship and patience by the numbers. The final section, individual storytelling, is displayed through student-produced films that encapsulate their journey from readers’ theater to storytelling. Special thanks to Ms. Yang for her teaching and guidance!

Elementary Department Students’ Learning at IBSH

Nine sixth graders from the Elementary Department stepped into the lives of IBSH students for 3 days, experiencing a completely different face of school just around the corners of their own classrooms! Though the representatives and the IBSH sixth graders largely practice different languages and ways of life, this exchange has indefinitely brought the gaps closer together. Through laughter, bonds were created, and both sides garnered new mutual respect with each other. This bi-cultural experience at our school continues to nurture relationships and is our greatest treasure!

High School English Drama Competition: Incorporating Character Education

The school invited Mr. Chiou Ji Fu from Hsinchu Chien-Kung Senior High School, Ms. Xiao Ruo Chi from National Hsinchu Senior High School, and Mr. Joe from the Studio Classroom as the professional judges. Under two and a half hours of amazing performances and fluent English lines, the students had a fulfilling, happy Wednesday afternoon. sioned for his students — a room with both open and personal areas, fit for both reading and studying, either with friends or alone. The NEHS faculty visited the Jian-Guo High School Library earlier this January in the hopes of being able to develop a similar environment for the students of NEHS. They hope that renovating our school’s library will create enough, and suitable, space for students of all ages to study in.

Kochi Senior High School Exchange with IBSH

Ever since 2016, the Kochi Senior High School has visited NEHS annually, interacting with IBSH students. This year the team was led by chemistry teachers Isamoto Hironobu and Nonami Kunimitsu, and consisted of eight junior students. We prepared many activities, both cultural and academic, for the exchange students. Such events included carving stamps, practicing calligraphy, and engaging in a Hakka tea ceremony. The Japanese students had fun placing sesame seeds, peanuts, rice grains, and other spices and tea leaves into a large clay pot and grinding the ingredients themselves. In the afternoon the students attended an eleventh-grade physics course and a ninth-grade biology course. IBSH NHS members were in charge of being “buddy friends” for the exchange students, and hopefully, they enabled the Japanese students to have a pleasant memory of IBSH and our program as a whole, exhibiting our kindness and enthusiasm towards these visitors.
